  • This last October I flew up to San Francisco to film my THIRD online class with @britandco. I was 5 months pregnant in this photo, heartburn was raging, but I’m so happy with the class we put out: an intermediate watercolor course where I teach you how to paint an agave plant. You can register for the class by going to jennarainey.com and clicking on “classes”...I’m just over here getting a little sentimental on all me and the little babe inside of me did when I was pregnant.
✨
Right now I’m cuddled up on the couch with him. He just finished nursing for like the 17th time in 4 hours (cluster feeding woo!). I’m in no rush to get up. Just wanting to slow these days and soak it all up before I’m back to work and things go by way too fast! #jennarainey #britandco #britstagram #watercolor #watercolour #art #artwork #paint #painting #illustration
  • Nourishing, warm comfort foods have been the norm around here for this #postpartum mama. Myles doesn’t seem to care all that much by the looks of this photo, but trust me, he’s reaping the benefits of these nutrient dense, healing foods just like I am (through the b👀b).
✨
We’ve been over here scarfing sweet potatoes, rice porridge, kitchari and lactation cookies like nobody’s business (thanks to the ravenous monster I’ve turned into with breastfeeding). And thankfully, I haven’t had to do any of the cooking myself thanks to Dani of @postpartumbites / @rawsomeyoga who’s goal is to nourish the postpartum mom while she heals by delivering meals that are Ayurvedic and down right tasty. My milk supply is amazing, my body is healing properly and tou won’t find me in the kitchen between feeding my baby, scarfing down whatever I can find while my body is shaking from all the swelling and such from my undercarriage 🙃. If you live in Southern California and are having a babe soon, she is a MUST... even if you don’t live in the area, give her account a follow - she posts tons of helpful tips and recipes! So grateful for her and how my body’s felt the past 6 days! #postpartumbites #postpartumbody #mama #baby #newborn #babyboy #breastfeeding #newmom #mom #sollybabywrap #snugglemeorganic
  • Did you see my stories yesterday?? If so, then you would’ve seen a peek at my licensing collab with @copperpearl for some baby milestone blankets. These were SO fun to work on and I thought I’d show you a process video of me painting one of the wreaths! Each illustration for these blankets were painted on 9”x12” Stonehenge Aqua coldpress paper by @legionpaper, scanned at 1200dpi and scaled up to fit a 42”x60” blanket. Love how these turned out and can’t wait to use em for our brand new family member!! Swipe to see one of the stories from yesterday that shows the blankets👉🏻 🖌SUPPLIES:
Brushes are the heritage 4050 series from @princetonbrush and paint is professional level watercolor by @winsorandnewton!!#jennarainey #copperpearl #baby #watercolor #art #artwork #illustration #mylesjamesrainey #floralwatercolor
  • A few months back, when this little tired guy was still in my tummy, I finalized a project with @copperpearl for some baby products. Such a special thing to paint and design something you picture using with your unborn babe and then to finally see him with it! So happy with how this collection turned out - check out my stories to see more of what it is😬 and make sure to follow @copperpearl to get your hands on these baby products when they launch in a couple months! #jennarainey #watercolor #watercolour #art #artwork #illustrator #baby #newborn #mama #copperpearl #mylesjamesrainey
  • Hello! Hola! Bonjour! Ciao! Myles is home with us and we can’t stop taking pics 😹🙈. #mylesjamesrainey
  • Our boy is here. He finally made his way into our arms after some hiccups this morning at 8:13am. He’s 7lbs 9oz with a full head of hair! Myles James, you’re already stubborn like your mama and late like your dad 😹. We love you beyond words and even though we had to throw our birth plan out the window because of how late you were and some amniotic fluid issues, we couldn’t be more grateful for how things went. You’re safe and healthy and beautiful with those cute little hairy arms 😹(comes off in a bath). We love you we love you we love youuuu!! 🤣#mylesjamesrainey
  • Been carrying this little bean close to my heart for just a couple months short of a year and we finally get to meet him this week! Ready for fitting in shirts and non-arthritic hands and knees and all the rest that comes with being #41weekspregnant + 2 days. Our midwives at @southcoastmidwifery have been nothing but amazing these past few weeks to reassure me that baby is gonna come when he’s ready. I’m doing everything I can to prepare my body for what’s to come (and yes, I’ve tried ALL the natural induction tips/methods. Literally all of it...including 3 membrane sweeps 🤪), and all good signs here. Boy is cozy in there, he’s healthy, and he’s just decided that he wants to be a February baby and have a birthday as close as possible to my mom (@jillfawcett)! We’re so ready to meet him and I know you guys are dying to hear when he comes, so I thought I’d give you this little update. Within the next few days! Tonight? Maybe. Tomorrow? Who knows! Thursday? Possibly. Just like we can’t plan if our baby’s eyes will match mine or his father’s, we can’t plan when he’ll decide to show up for his blind date with us. But the time is ticking! #pregnant #mama #mamatobe #motherhood #pregnancy #birth #baby
  • February 1st. As we sit here waiting for this baby to join us, I can’t help but be grateful for the past 40+ weeks. It’s been challenging navigating hashimotos and fibromyalgia while growing a baby, the stress of running a business, buying a house and moving, but this body is resilient and has really proven myself and other people wrong.
🙌🏻
What I mean by that is, since college, I’ve been told by various doctors (holistic and conventional) based on blood work, hormones and my battle with auto immune disease that I would have a hard time getting pregnant. That until my stress and health was under control, it wouldn’t even be possible. Health is something we can take for granted and the reason I’m posting this is to recognize all of the women and families who have struggled and lost. I can’t even imagine scrolling through the baby announcements and photos, feeling the sinking pit of loss where a baby once lived or was never able to grow. 🌿
I want you to know my thoughts and love are with you, and that is all. My hope is that your struggle fuels your story to help others and that you find comfort ❤️. #pregnant #mamatobe #watercolor #watercolour #art #artwork
  • “Whoa! Your face is looking fatter!” “You sure you’re not growing twins 🙀?!” “You’re much prettier now than your *skinny days*” “Dang girl! Eating for two I guess” “Your butt is looking bigger too!”...
🤰🏻
These are all messages I’ve received in my last trimester from random people on the internet (and yes, I’m hearing them in person too), and while I was able to brush off these daily messages for WEEKS, I snapped the other day. I cried because of hormones and lack of sleep, going past my due date (yes, I know that’s normal) and just wanting to be done. I cried because it’s taken weeks for me to adjust to my changing body on my own. I’m not posting this to get sympathy and I’m DEFINITELY not posting this to get another piece of advice or to hear one more time “you think you’re tired now...just wait until...” I get it. I know I’m not *fat*...if I’m fat you guys, then we got some standards and body image issues to deal with. I know I’m going to be tired. I don’t need another comparison or one-upping story.
💫
The reason I’m posting this is because I know that these comments get thrown around at pregnant women ALL THE TIME. People don’t think about how commenting on a woman’s size is still commenting on a woman’s size even when they’re growing a human. ❤️
So to the women who are pregnant and navigating their new bodies or trying to ignore the comments: the marks, the added pounds, the puffy face and swelling are NOT flaws. They are signs of a GIFT. A life growing inside of you and that’s a pretty amazing achievement. Photo by @alohazophoto.life
