A born-and-raised Southern California girl with nothing more than some paint brushes, her laptop and passion, I’m proud to have built the creative business of my dreams where I’ve been able to serve hundreds of thousands of people across the world. What do I do exactly? Through my best-selling how-to watercolor books, YouTube channel, and online courses that have served the world, I help people like you get their hands dirty and wake up the passion in their life.

But my business didn’t always look like this.

Today you can find me writing and painting for my next book with Ten Speed Press, whipping up a pattern for a licensing job, or filming my next online class…but when I quit my corporate job in 2012, I had NO idea what I was doing.

With no training in art or business, I took a chance on going after what I loved.

I started as a pointed pen calligrapher for weddings. I didn’t paint yet, I had never touched an Adobe program in my life, and probably didn’t even have a contract for client work until two years in! Was I good at calligraphy at this time in my “career”? Nope. But people were hiring me, so I didn’t pay much attention to that.

It has been a long and wild road since I quit my job and started this creative entrepreneurship thing, but little did I know that taking that risk would lead me to writing best-selling watercolor books, becoming an “Instagram Influencer,” and named one of the top creative educators of our day.

From nearly failing out of college, waiting tables at a bar in downtown Chicago, and filing IRA applications at my financial planning job to building a highly profitable creative business from my side hustle, I’m undeniable proof that the starving artist narrative was made to be broken.

In my spare time, I enjoy cooking meals for my best friends, snuggling my son Myles, dreaming up my next big adventure with my husband and business partner John, and playing with my old friend: the piano.

What’s my goal in life? To show everyone they’re creative! If you can draw a circle, you can draw a flower!…oh, and to learn how to speak French!
